Castle Community College, Deal, Kent

We are about to commence works on another new school scheme with Kier Construction, Aylesford office.

Castle Community College is a new academy in Deal, Kent.

We were asked to help at a very early stage with some design and expert input on the lightweight steel framing, insulated render and rainscreen cladding elements. Meetings with Kier and the Architects KSS, who we worked with at Brighton, early in the design process, allowed us to help steer the design to achieve the desired look as well as the technical requirements.

An overriding requirment of the specification is that all elements are to have a minimum 40 year design life. This proved quite challenging in the early stages. However, Wetherby Building Systems have a BBA certified insulated render system that has a 60 year life expectancy and the HPL board, Bauclad, provided by CEP has a life expectancy in excess of 40 years.

In the end, we didn’t secure the SFS work; that being installed by the drylining contractor. However, we have been asked to install both the render and cladding elements, and commence in earnest any time now.
