Role and responsibilities

As an Estimator, Nicolae is responsible for researching material and build costs, collecting quotes and planning job timescales. Meticulous in his approach, he ensures that all parties involved in a project understand their requirements and deadlines.

Since his position is primarily focussed on the costs and quality of resources, Nicolae naturally assesses the levels of risk associated with a project, in terms of overspend and unforeseen expenses. The thorough information he provides enables the client to make informed decisions and implement appropriate financial risk mitigation strategies to keep costs in check.

Training and experience

Nicolae began his career working on the tools before progressing to a Project Manager position at a different company. His on-site operations background proved instrumental in understanding materials and logistics, eventually leading him to acquire sales, estimation, and operations skills.

“I achieved a project manager position and soon found I had experience in sales, estimation, and operations.

“My project management experience helps me understand developments from inception to completion, something I think Eden Facades found attractive when considering my suitability for their team,” Nicolae shares.

Typical day at Eden

A typical day for Nicolae as an Estimator at Eden Facades involves receiving enquiries and working to formulate a response to the scope of the work required.

After a thorough analysis, they might return to the client with questions to clarify exact specifications and time scale requirements. Nicolae and the wider Eden Facades team create a plan outlining the safest and most optimal way to deliver on the project.

“That initial plan will then be validated with detail and measurements from our own investigations. That way, we’re making very sure to thoroughly check that everything is in order.”

Challenges and overcoming them

One of the biggest challenges Nicolae faces is managing client expectations while maintaining the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality work. With ever-evolving construction industry standards, Nicolae must constantly adapt and learn to ensure that projects comply with current regulations and use the most efficient methods and materials.
