Collaboration is the key to creating strong partnerships

Establishing a strong, reliable supply chain means taking time to develop good relationships with suppliers that share the same values, to build a partnership based on honesty and trust.

We are committed to working with products and suppliers of the highest possible standard, and RCM Building Boards and Facades, established in 2004, is a good example.

RCM is one of the UK’s market-leading suppliers of specialist building boards and facades to the UK construction industry, with sole rights in the UK to many of the products they supply. We know they will work with us to provide innovative solutions across all structural applications using the latest technology, whether for timber or steel frames, internal or external work. By offering a complete service from initial advice through to delivery, it saves time for us and is more cost efficient for our clients.

When Eden Facades began trading ten years ago, we were pleased to build on our good relationship with RCM and have subsequently worked on many projects together. Ian Quinton, Managing Director at RCM comments, ”We’ve worked on a lot of projects of varying sizes, but for me, creating a good partnership is more important than the size of business. Paul and the team at Eden Facades are very supportive and we enjoy working alongside them, it’s very much about collaboration.”

One of the most recent projects we have worked on together is currently underway, at De Grey Road in Colchester. Working with main contractor RG Carter, our scope was for the removal of the existing cladding and replacement with non-combustible insulation and cladding.

Rockpanel A2 and Rockwool Duo-Slab was specified for this re-cladding project. Rockpanel A2 is ideal for applications where high levels of fire performance are mandatory, by meeting or in some cases exceeding European safety standards. The A2 board is also available in a broad range of finishes and colours to fit with the required aesthetic.

One of those striking colourways was used at Kendrick school  in Berkshire this summer, where we were brought in by main contractor Darwin Group to install Rockpanel cladding to the front of the building. The coloured panels sit alongside the white render to create an impressive, contemporary effect at the school.

Works at another school earlier this year in Bishops Stortford involved working alongside main contractor Kier Construction to install Kingspan lightweight steel framing infill to steel frame and sheathing board at St. Joseph’s primary school.

Using the Kingspan lightweight steel framing system was cost effective for the client, and as the SFS is assembled off-site, the project also benefits from a faster build time. RCM were able to supply the facades to the exact size to reduce time, minimise wastage & improve environmental impact.

Continuing with the school theme, at Abbotts Green primary in Suffolk last winter, we installed PermaRock render system and render carrier board supplied by RCM, rendering the walls of the new school building under main contractor Barnes Construction.

Market-leading PermaRock was specified for the project at Stock Orchard Street in London last year, a ‘Grand Design’ completed almost twenty years ago, and named by TV presenter Kevin McCloud as one of his favourite Grand Designs projects.

The architects had several elements that needed attention, and we were recommended to them as experienced installers of PermaRock external wall insulation.  Access was fairly limited, but as Construction Director Paul Michaelson comments, “Having the varied experience that comes from working across sites of differing sizes and natures, we could adapt our methods of working to ensure the standards were maintained despite the restrictions.”

Across all these projects, we have worked with suppliers and products we can rely on to ensure we deliver a first-class finish for our clients, every time. It’s not always easy to sustain a reliable supply chain, but we have found that working in a positive and collaborative way brings benefits in terms of profitability and the completed project, for our clients, main contractors and suppliers.

When asked what he appreciated about working with Eden Facades, Ian Quinton commented, “I find them very loyal, in the way they treat their suppliers. The information you get from them is good and on time, you get good clear instructions, you understand what they want. I think they are also very technically astute. They’re very proactive in making sure they make the supply chain work.”
