Meet the Team: Abbie, Administrator

Abbie joined Eden Facades in August 2024, bringing her nearly a decade of construction experience.

Though officially titled Administrator, her role spans various tasks to support the business. Here, we learn more about her day-to-day responsibilities, what she enjoys most about the job, and why she encourages more women to start a career in construction.

Industry background

Abbie’s path into construction began through family influence; her grandfather was a Project Manager who introduced her to site life in London. What started as an administrative support role quickly became a long-term career as she developed a strong understanding of the industry’s demands.

With a natural ability to organise and a willingness to learn, Abbie thrived in fast-paced site environments, often being the only woman on-site. Over nearly a decade, she gained deep experience in logistics and operations, which made her transition into the façade sector at Eden Facades a seamless next step.

“Construction was never something I imagined for myself at first,” Abbie explains, “but once I got into it, I knew it was where I wanted to stay.”

A day in the life: Keeping the wheels turning

Abbie’s day at Eden Facades is anything but predictable. While her title is officially Administrator, she supports nearly every corner of the business, from coordinating site requests to managing supplier relationships.

“No two days are ever the same,” she says. “You might plan to do one thing, then get sidetracked by something urgent from the site or the office.”

Her day often involves liaising with site teams to understand their needs – plant hire, PPE, or site materials. She may be placing purchase orders, updating databases, arranging deliveries, or supporting the surveyors throughout the day.

Abbie has also built strong working relationships with key suppliers, which makes a real difference when time is tight.

“With the hiring suppliers, I’ve created excellent relationships with them,” she says. “So, when I call and say I need something urgently, they’ll deliver.”

Those connections help the business respond quickly to shifting site needs, giving the team confidence that the essentials will arrive when and where needed. Abbie’s role is a key part of the cog that keeps everything running smoothly and on time, contributing directly to the excellent service Eden Facades is known for.

What drives Abbie

What motivates Abbie most is the satisfaction of keeping things moving and ensuring everyone gets what they need – fast.

“Getting everyone’s requests out on time, to be honest,” she says.

Abbie takes pride in being someone her colleagues can rely on. “Sometimes they need things same-day or next-day, and I just like knowing I’ve handled it.”

That sense of urgency and purpose fuels her day. Abbie is also motivated by growth – she’s preparing to take on new responsibilities like SWIGA compliance and is always looking for ways to make a bigger impact.

“I don’t want to stay stagnant. I want to keep progressing and helping the business wherever I can.”

Ask Abbie what she enjoys most about her job; the answer is instant: the people.

What Abbie enjoys most about her job is the people and the supportive work environment at Eden Facades. There’s a great atmosphere where everyone gets on and helps each other. You’re not just stuck in one department here – everyone’s connected.

Championing women in construction

Working in a male-dominated industry hasn’t always been easy, especially when she was often the only woman on-site.

“At first, when I entered the industry, people doubted me. I’d get, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about,’ but I did. I had to prove it over and over.”

Now, Abbie sees that the industry is changing and that women are increasingly respected and valued. The current team at Eden Facades is a perfect example.

“The great thing at Eden Facades is we have strong women in the office who are so good at what they do and meet the pace and demands of the site teams.”

Her advice to other women considering a career in construction?

“Don’t be intimidated. It can feel overwhelming initially, but if you know your worth and are prepared to ask questions and learn, you’ll thrive. I can’t recommend it enough.”

What the future holds

Still relatively new to the façade world, Abbie is keen to keep growing. She’s preparing to take on new responsibilities like handling SWIGA documentation and looks forward to developing her career further within Eden.

“I take a lot of pride in my work. I want to keep progressing – not just for myself, but to support the team and the business in any way possible.”

At Eden Facades, Abbie is not just a key part of the engine that keeps the company running, but also a significant contributor to the company’s success. Her role as an Administrator directly impacts the smooth operation of the business, and she is a role model for women looking to build a future in construction.
