Meet the Team: Ian Stewart, Project Manager

At Eden Facades, we take pride in our talented and dedicated team. Each member plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality façade solutions, and today, we’re shining the spotlight on one of our Project Managers, Ian Stewart. With extensive experience in construction, Ian brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the industry, particularly in delivering façade solutions.

Here, we explore his journey into the industry, what a typical day looks like, and how he played a pivotal role in Eden’s first-ever project.

Tell us a little about your journey in construction.

Like many in this industry, I kind of fell into it! Twenty years ago, I met someone at my rugby club who offered me a job. On my first day on-site, Paul Michaelson (Construction Director at Eden Facades) was the manager. I started out as a labourer working on Steel Framing Systems (SFS). Over time, I progressed to running teams on-site and eventually moved into cladding. After about ten years on-site, I transitioned into management, and I’ve been in management roles ever since.

How long have you worked at Eden Facades?

This is actually my second time working at Eden Facades. I initially joined eight years ago in a management role, but when the opportunity to return arose last May, I knew it was the right decision.

When the chance to return came up, it felt like coming home. I’ve always appreciated the culture and high standards here, and I was excited to bring back the experience I had gained elsewhere.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I oversee multiple live projects, ensuring everything runs smoothly from start to finish. My week is usually split between site visits and office time, where I review progress, manage reports, and liaise with clients. I have weekly meetings with my site managers to review targets and make sure we’re on track. It’s a role that keeps me on my toes, but I enjoy the variety and challenges.

Do you have any projects you’re particularly proud of?

One standout project was Gerrard House in Lewisham, which I managed while working for another company. That project was later mentioned in the Hackett Report as an example of how recladding should be done correctly. It was rewarding to see our work recognised at that level. The relationships I built during that time with United Living have also helped strengthen our connections at Eden Facades today.

Another was playing a vital role in Eden’s very first job. It was a small housing project in South Ockendon, and I was the first person on-site, stripping off old materials and installing new cladding. It’s great to look back and see how much the company has grown since then!

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The people and the standards we set. The team is excellent—there’s no toxicity, just a fantastic group of professionals who want to do a good job. When I worked elsewhere, I realised that not all companies hold themselves to the same high standards. Coming back, I’ve been able to bring fresh perspectives while appreciating how well things are done here.

How has the company evolved since you first started?

One significant improvement is our quality assurance (QA) system. We’ve implemented new processes, including enhanced digital tracking using Field View, which has really strengthened our reporting and documentation. It’s clear that the team has continued to raise the already high standards across the business.

Do you have any future aspirations?

I’m happy where I am. This role suits me, and I genuinely enjoy it, so I will continue to ensure we maintain the high standards we set for every project. I also enjoy working with many clients across a variety of cladding projects.

There’s also a great work-life balance—unlike some larger companies where you’re just a number. Here, I have the flexibility to manage my time and projects in a way that makes sense. That level of trust and autonomy makes all the difference.
