Spotlight on: Steel Frame Systems (SFS)

Steel Frame Systems (SFS) are contemporary structural systems designed for the efficient and rapid construction of modern buildings. These systems enable the assembly of steel columns, beams, and other structural components into a cohesive framework, providing support for floors, roofs, walls, and internal elements such as partitions and cladding.

SFS is becoming an increasingly popular choice as it offers significant advantages over other building materials. By streamlining the construction process, SFS can enhance project efficiency.

SFS is becoming an increasingly popular choice as it offers significant advantages over other building materials. By streamlining the construction process, SFS can enhance project efficiency.

As experienced installers of SFS, we are well aware of the benefits this solution can bring to projects. Some of the key attributes of SFS include:

· Structural integrity: Steel provides high strength-to-weight ratio, which makes it ideal for creating robust and durable structures capable of supporting significant loads. SFS is lightweight but high strength, requiring little to no ongoing maintenance.

· Versatility: SFS can be used in a wide range of building designs, including complex architectural forms and high-rise buildings.

· Speed of construction: Steel frame components are often prefabricated off-site, allowing for faster on-site assembly and reduced construction time, making it a cost-effective building solution and a fantastic option for projects where space and access is restricted.

· Sustainability: Steel is recyclable, and steel frame systems can contribute to environmentally friendly construction practices.

· Fire resistance: Steel structures can be designed to meet stringent fire safety standards, although they may require additional fireproofing measures.

· Precision: The prefabrication process allows for high precision in the manufacturing of steel components, leading to accurate assembly and fit, and a reduction in wastage.

“Eden’s high standards and meticulous attention to detail are in line with our own.”

Gavin Jaggard, Regional Sales Manager for SFS at the Hadley Group

Paul Michaelson, Construction Director at Eden Facades, comments: “When it comes to SFS, there are some clear advantages of choosing it as a solution over more traditional methods. Our team has worked on many projects across many sectors, and we’re proud to call ourselves experts in this area.”

Below are just a few of the SFS projects our team has worked on recently:

Millbank, London

Hadley Steel Framing SFS was specified for this prestigious project in London, utilising an off-site steel bolted frame system which we have extensive experience in installing. The advantages of using this type of solution is that the system is constructed off site under factory conditions, then delivered to site ready to be assembled.

Gavin Jaggard, Regional Sales Manager for SFS at the Hadley Group, explains more about the Hadley SFS Load Bearing system: “Our in-house design team use BIM co-ordination to collaborate all structural elements throughout the design process, before being manufactured and cut to length at our state-of-the-art facility, and then delivered to site for installation.

Gavin continues: “We’ve worked with the team at Eden on quite a number of projects and their high standards and meticulous attention to detail is in line with our own, it’s a good partnership.” Find out more about the SFS project at Millbank.

Addington Valley, Croydon

SFS was specified for this Special Free School for children and young people with autism and learning difficulties. One of the advantages of using an SFS system is that it is quicker to install than brick and block work, and can reduce the overall build schedule, allowing other trades to have access to site sooner than when using more traditional methods.

At Addington Valley Academy, the SFS system was supplied by Metsec and expertly installed by our team. Find out more about the award-winning SFS project at Addington Valley.

The Longwater Collection, Reading

Located within the spacious 60-acre Green Park Village and set beside a scenic lake, this Berkeley Group development introduces a novel, sustainable village concept. The Metsec SFS specified is a good option for this sustainability-focused project, as steel is a recyclable material, therefore reducing the overall carbon footprint of the project. SFS is integral to modern construction, offering a combination of strength, flexibility, and efficiency. These systems play a critical role in the development of safe, durable, and innovative structures across a broad range of sectors.
