Strong mid-year performance for Eden Facades

With the recovery of the construction market gathering momentum, we are seeing projects in all sectors coming online, from both new and existing relationships.

It is always satisfying to be awarded projects from previous clients, where our work clearly spoke for itself, as well as to earn the opportunity to show those skills in our work with new ones.

The contracts that we have coming up, some of which are highlighted below, show that works are restarting in many different markets, including education and residential. In both of these markets, the ability to work around, and be considerate of, those residents and users already on site needs to be taken into account when choosing an installer. Our site staff are experienced in adapting to changing environments to ensure that the work is not compromised even if elements such as access change throughout the project’s progress.

Let’s take a look at some of these new projects ….

Challenging curves not an issue

The estate at Isleden House in Islington is centred around a quiet, private courtyard and gardens. It comprises 76 flats, 33 of which are sheltered accommodation for people at the current state retirement age. The project involves the construction of 3 flats above an existing ground floor UKPN Substation within the curtilage of Isleden House. Borras Construction was awarded the contract by the City of London Corporation, with completion scheduled for Spring 2022.

In the coming months, we will be installing the lightweight steel framing infill to form curved walls to the infill extension creating new apartments. Technically challenging to install, curved infill SFS can be rapidly installed to allow other activities to take place much earlier than it would with block-work infill walls.

This is a further project with Borras, following on from previous work installing cassette cladding at Belfairs Academy in Leigh-on-Sea. There we undertook a project to blend a new building with the aesthetics of the metallic finish on older buildings that had weathered, and taken on a very distinctive colour.

Knuckling down to work in Northants

Red Kite Academy in Northampton is to receive a new Sixth Form block, to be constructed by Darwin Group. Our scope is to install Wetherby External Wall Insulation (EWI) to the new extension.

We’ve worked with Darwin on projects in the education sector in the past, and so were pleased to be awarded this and another project at Towcester Vale School in Northants. This is a large-scale project with the new school building requiring facades to be clad in the Eurobrick brick slip system and Cedral Click cladding.

Cedral Click cladding provides an ideal low maintenance alternative to timber cladding, whilst having the same visual appeal of natural timber. The fibre cement, tongue and groove board uses a ‘Click Clip’ system, making installation very efficient.

Change of use requires new exterior

We are looking forward to getting underway on our first project with Landcore Development. Chalkwell House in Manningtree, Essex is a former industrial site currently featuring a 3-storey derelict building and associated parking with permitted development in place for 21 residential units.

For this project, we’ll be working with PermaRock insulated render. This offers clients benefits in terms of the broad range of options for texture, colour and shape, giving clients great flexibility and ensuring the final aesthetic is not compromised.

PermaRock is just one of the manufacturers for whom Eden Facades is a Registered Installer, and who recommended us to Landcore for this project. Collaborating with manufacturers in this way means giving our clients peace of mind about our competencies and skill levels.

As the sector continues to right itself following the pandemic, we are starting to see many new potential projects being given the green light. In response to this increased demand, we have added two new estimators to our team to enable us to get vital information back to bid or projects teams as quickly as possible.

It is incredibly important that we are able to give focused and dedicated time to any prospects so that we can ensure that adequate protections are in place. It also enables us to look into delivery timeframes and any supply issues that could be encountered, and to flag up any potential factors that could hold projects up. Having this extra resource will enable us to continue to provide accurate and complete quotations.
